Check out what we have been learning in room 103!
We had lots of fun at the water table this week! We put shaving cream inside with different drops of primary colours. The kids had a great time mixing the colours to make secondary colours.
Water Table Exploration - I made two different coloured ice balloons. One was blue and one was yellow. The students had a lot of fun watching them melt and colour the water. They did a great job at predicting what would happen when the blue and yellow water mixed!
Math: Non-standard Measurement - We have been measuring our classmates this week! We were using objects around the room to see how tall we are. The students had a lot of fun with this activity!
The kids have become very interested in snakes! They were curious about how and why snakes shed their skin. I brought in some snake skin for the students to see and feel.
Here is a fun literacy game I made! The students need to swat the sight word!
We made our Mother's Day cards by having the students draw a picture in pencil. We then went over it with glue and salt. Next, we used food colouring to paint it!
We went looking for signs of spring yesterday and found lots of beautiful flowers blooming!
We had a 13 year old Ontario gymnast named Emre come to Fraser Mustard! He performed for us, answered the students' questions and brought his medals to share with us!
Yesterday when the kids entered they had to solve a math problem! I had each student make a hand print and then asked them to try and figure out how many hands we have in the class without counting each one individually. Next we had to solve how many fingers we have!
Ali - each person has 2 hands
Mohid - we have 24 kids here today
Kauser - we have to count by 2's
Isra - we have 48 hands!
Next we tried to figure out how many fingers we have!
Haider - we should count by 5's because we have 5 fingers on each hand
Kauser - we should count by 10's because we have 10 fingers altogether
We decided to skip count both ways to see if it was the same. We discovered we have 240 fingers in the class!

We did studies the artist Van Gogh this week and created our own Van Gogh inspired art work! The children did an AMAZING job! We had been painting the flowers we planted in our classroom and the students' artwork reminded us of Van Gogh's flower paintings, particularly his painting of sunflowers.
This is our wonder wall! We post questions the students are wondering here!
Part one of Ali's version of the True Story of the Three Little Pigs.
We have been studying the Three Little Pigs. I read a bunch of different versions of the story to the students. They picked their favourite story and retold it using an app called Chatter Pix. Here is part of Kauser's story. She retold the Three Ninja Pigs.
Marble painting
Math: concrete graphing - this morning we graphed our shoes depending on whether or not they have laces, Velcro, zippers or are slip-ons
We combined science and art by painting using a magnet and paper clip!
Earth Day Fashion Show
Time Lapse video of us getting our Earth Day Fashion Show outfit ready!
Playing with ice boats in the water table.
Math: We've been conducting surveys in room 103! The kids have been loving this math activity!
Ice cube painting.
We read a few different versions of the story Stone Soup. As a class we cowrote a recipe for our own stone stope. I orally told our own version of stone soup and each child added an ingredient. It was delicious!
Experimenting with (hopefully!) our last snowfall of the year.
This week we read the book "The Most Magnificent Thing". In the book the girl builds something magnificent out of junk. We brainstormed magnificent things we would like to create and then in groups we created a blueprint of what we were making, wrote a sentence about it, created our most magnificent thing out of recycling, and then decorated it! Above we have a rocket, ladybug scooter, motorcycle, and bike!
We played a shape game today. I set up different shape "mailboxes" around the room and the students had to pretend to be mailmen and deliver the correct shape post cards to the corresponding mailbox.
